Experience the world’s largest bird, the ostrich, which lays the largest egg, has the most beautiful feathers and eyes that make you want to fall in love and hug them.

We offer a variety of ostrich tours. Each tour has 2 parts – the main yard and the farmlands.

In the main yard, you will be shown different ostrich feathers, the incubators and how they work, gizzard stones, and you can feed the ostriches yourself!

Pepper Tree Restaurant

Conclude your tour with a traditional ostrich meal. Meals are served in The Pepper Tree Restaurant located in our historic homestead, with magnificent views of the Klein Karoo valley and picturesque Swartberg Mountains.  

Whether it’s a cup of our special African Arabica coffee, something light for brunch or an expertly prepared no fat, low cholesterol ostrich steak for lunch, you will find a dish to please parents and children on our tapas menu.

We are also proud of our local wines and hand crafted beers which you can enjoy while the children play on our manicured lawns, clamber over the jungle gym playground & enjoy a unique donkey cart ride.

Highgate’s beautiful Karoo gardens and charming rustic indoor venue provide the most idyllic setting for a romantic wedding or special celebration.

The Volmoed church is only 6 km away from our stunning farm.
