Point of Human Origins - Visit world renowned archaeological site with early evidence of modern human behaviour, Mossel Bay, Garden Route, South Africa
Experience the awe of standing at the Point of Human Origins. Visit world renown archaeological site with earliest evidence for Human Origins, Mossel Bay.
With our two new tours – the Point Wander and St. Blaize Lighthouse tours – you can take a journey and discover modern human behaviour. All our tours are a dual journey; one in space and time, and one within.
Our main goals are to create awareness of the original human design, to awaken the human spirit, and to inspire people to change the way they behave towards all life on our planet.

Experience with Dr Nilssen - The full tour is divided into two parts:
1st part - an introductory, thought provoking PowerPoint presentation by Dr Nilssen that will take you on a journey into pre-history where you learn about human nature and behavior, ancient environments, sea levels, food sources, cave formation processes, stone tool technology, and how our earliest ancestors managed to survive a near extinction event through their connection with and reliance on nature.
2nd part – scenic visit to the Pinnacle Point Caves in the company of Dr Nilssen. The only access to Cave 13B is via a series of steep wooden stairways and boardwalks (some 200 stairs in each direction). The climb back up can be taxing unless you’re mildly fit.
The full tour is usually between 3 to 4 hours in duration while the cave visit is usually 2 hours.
PLEASE NOTE: Tours must be booked in advance and depend on Dr. Nilssen's availability (due to professional commitments he is not always available). To run the full tour, we prefer a group of not less than 8 people. If a group of 8 or more people cannot be arranged, then a private tour or cave visit can be booked with Dr Nilssen.
Cave Visits - Guided Cave Visits with Specially Trained, Knowledgeable Guide
Our guide is available, but booking is essential. This version is ideal for individuals or groups who are on the move, but who would like to visit this renowned site at short notice. We do not require particular group size to run these excursions. This tour is usually about 1.5 hours in duration. The only access to Cave 13B is via a series of steep wooden stairways and boardwalks (some 200 stairs in each direction). The climb back up can be taxing unless you’re mildly fit. Dress: comfortable clothes and walking shoes.
Point to Point
Join us on a guided, one of a kind daytrip! The experience begins by visiting the world renown archaeological cave sites at Pinnacle Point. This is followed by a five hour hike, which includes a picnic stop, along the famous St. Blaize Trail with beautiful coastal views. The experience ends at another important Stone Age archaeological cave site at the iconic Point of Mossel Bay.
Important Information: Point to Point starts promptly at 09h00 at the Pinnacle Point Golf Clubhouse. The only access to Cave 13B is via a series of steep wooden stairways and boardwalks (some 200 stairs in each direction). The climb back up can be taxing unless you’re mildly fit. The coastal contour hike is about 9 km in length with a slight gradient and its difficulty is rated as medium to easy.
This full day tour includes a light lunch pack & water (for the picnic stop) and one-way transport. For non-driving visitors we can arrange two way transport at extra cost.
A portion of each person’s entry fee goes into a conservation fund for protecting and conserving the archaeological sites that we visit at Pinnacle Point. So every visitor is personally involved in the conservation of humanity's heritage at the Pinnacle Point Site Complex.
