BASS & TROUT FISHING
Botterkloof is blessed with three fountains, one of which is a seven eye fountain with sparkling fresh water. These fountains constantly feed the dams on the slope with fresh water.
The dams are inhabited with Black Bass and Chinese Karp who eat the grass. There are a lot of frogs and toads which are the primary food supply for the black bass. (We have also installed lights that come on at night supplying insects for the fish.)
Trout can grow up to 46cm in length or more and the competition is on to see who can catch the biggest trout in our dams! A fee of R72-00 per kg is charged.
Interesting species seen on the property by Overberg Bird club included Cape Batis, Brimstone, Cape, White-throated and Yellow Canaries, African Goshawk, Peregrine Falcon, African Dusky Flycatcher, Brown-hooded and Pied Kingfishers, vast numbers of Common Waxbills and Cardinal and Knysna Woodpeckers.
The antics of breeding Grey and Black Headed Herons and Black Crowned Knight Herons can be watched in the gum trees.
Botterkloof offers an exceptional variety of Bird life. CLICK HERE for the most recent list on birds found at Botterkloof.
